Hostal Gat Xino. As well as designing the extension to the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum in Madrid, young architectural practice BOPBAA has created simple interiors and a distinctive cat’s eye logo for the first two properties in the nascent, no frills chain of Gat Hotels. Hostals Gat Xino and Gat Raval, both in El Raval, offer basic accommodation and minimal service, which helps to keep the prices low. Gat Xino, the larger and better of the two hotels, has 34 rooms, all with en suite facilities, and one suite with a private terrace. The lime-green colour scheme and fraffiti-inspired light fittings complement the edginess of the area. There are plans afoot to open more Gat hotels in Lisbon and Madrid.
